A workflow diagram describes series of actions that define a job, process or how work should be done. Such diagrams visualizes the flow of tasks between resources, whether they’re machine or people and what conditions move the sequence forward. Essentially Workflow diagram is flowchart type diagram using abstract boxes and diamonds or real-life objects, using graphics and picture that represents customers, forms, payments and more.

It is commonly used for implementation and documentation purposes since it provide general overview of business process and often it’s the foundation for other documentation including flowcharts and data flow diagrams.
